iTunes To Be Reviewed By The Norwegian governmentNovember 06, 2008
Apple responded to Norway's Consumer Ombudsman’s plan to bring an case against iTunes before the country’s Market Council, however, Apple’s answer failed to impress the official, according to PC News. It is now expected that the case will go before the council in March or April of next year.
Norway’s top consumer advocate, Bjorn Erik Thon, announced in September that he taking Apple before the government’s Market Council to force the company to allow its iTunes music store to work with other digital devices other than its iPod. Norway is heading a two year old European campaign aimed at getting Apple to make iTunes compatible with the digital music devices of its rivals. Thon has been pushing Apple to change its rules and system, saying Apple's restrictions are in violation of Norwegian law. The council has the power, under Norwegian law, to force companies to alter their trade practices, and can also issue fines against companies that don’t. Thon said Apple has until Nov. 3 to submit a respose, and that the council would likely make a rulling on the case early next year.
